Also, the curriculum is aligned with Delaware standards and is project-based, so students learn by doing. In addition, we are applying the Workshop Model.
Why Use the Workshop Model?

Spanish Language Arts/Artes del Lenguage en Español
Unit 1
Writing: Expert books/Libros de los expertos
Learners will learn to publish bi-lingual books about things that they are experts on. They will use the non-fiction text features they learn about in reading
to add meaning and give life to their books.
Summative grade: Publish book through the writing process
HMWK: Research for book topic using the internet, books, people and other sources. (For example if you have a chapter about healthy foods, you could get books and magazines related to healthy food, visit a supermarket and talk to a produce manager, or search on the internet about healthy foods to add knowledge from other experts in your own book.)
Grammar: Cognates/cognados
Learners will get accustomed to recognizing, understanding and correctly using cognates.
Assessment: Translating cognates
Daily practice: Locating cognates in Morning Message, reading passages for Lotta Lara and using cognates reference list in binder when writing.
Oracy: Lotta Lara
Learners will work toward biliteracy through guided repeated oral reading. Learners are guided as they read using the echo, choral and partner techniques.
Assessment: Oral reading, vocabulary and comprehension quizzes

Reading: Reading informational texts/Leyendo libros de no ficción.
Learners will learn to use non-fiction text features to help them as they understand non-fiction texts.
